The site is suburban/rural, with mixed deciduous trees, some meadows, and some conservation-demonstration farms within ½ mile of the Big Gunpowder River just downstream from the Loch Raven reservoir.
Colony:
The colony is mixed Italian Carniolan from local stock, in one deep and one medium, managed with IPM techniques for honey production.
Scale:
The scale is a NASA electronic logging scale, calibration is checked bi-monthly, uncertainty is 0.3 lb., exposed to the weather, sheltered by shrubs and trees from NW winds.
Forage:
Major sources are Black Locust, Tulip tree, Am. Holly, black/rasp/wine berries, linden, and clover in wet years.
