Site Description:
From: Edwards, S. W. 1953. Scale hive tells the story. Gleanings in Bee Culture 81:399-401. Note: The exact location of the site is not given in the text, and attempts to find additional information have been unproductive. We therefore give the location as the town of Myersville, MD, which should be considered approximate within 10 km.Regarding this historical data record: The gains throughout the year are discussed, but no table or plot is given. There are long gaps during dearth periods, and we assume that there were no notable peaks during those periods. We have interpolated on a daily basis, though the data are weekly and contain gaps. Nectar sources are discussed in relation to previous years, and it is noted that a lack of a pronounced nectar flow from sumac and fall asters in 1952 is attributed to drought. The location is near the South Mountain ridge, the extension of the Blue Ridge into Maryland.
