The hive is located in a suburban area with abundant trees, wetlands and small lakes, and green areas.
Colony:
The Italian colony was established in 10 frame deep with 9 frames of bees and 2 medium supers in March, 2012. It sits on a garage rear porch/patio under cover, facing south, and is partly shaded.
Scale:
Fairbanks 1024 with 0.5 lb divisions, leveled and checked for accuracy.
Forage:
Abundant pollen and nectar. Typical sources include red maple, Ti-Ti, berries, pear, peach, willow, persimmon, poplar, red clover, swamp gallberry, black gum, tupelo, Chinese tallow, palmetto, red cabbage palm.
